What is NMES?
nmes
In a nutshell, NMES is a technology that uses Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) to initiate your muscles to contract and relax involuntarily. When you do normal conventional exercise, such as lifting weights, your brain sends a signal to your muscles to voluntarily contract and relax. On the other hand, when you use a Muscle Stimulator, an electrical impulse is generated from the device and is transferred to targeted muscles, which causes them to contract and relax involuntarily.
What are the Benefits of Electrostimulation?
Electrostimulation
Incorporating Tone-A-Matic Electric Muscle Stimulation into your daily routine has many benefits:
- Strengthens muscles
- Tones your body
- Speeds up fat loss
- Warms up muscles to prevent injury
- Reduces cellulite
- No strain on joints
- Isolate problem areas
- Increases explosive strength by targeting fast-twitch muscle fibers
- Increases endurance by targeting slow-twitch muscle fibers
- Helps to strengthen your core
- Enhances blood circulation
- Improves training results

TENS vs. EMS
The principle behind EMS is straightforward. During everyday movement or “voluntary contraction” the brain sends a signal along a nerve to the motor point of a muscle. This signal, similar to a weak electric current, is a message to the muscles to contract and exercise.
In electrostimulation or “involuntary contraction”, conductive rubber pads are placed on the surface of the skin over the motor points of treated muscle groups. When an electronic impulse is applied through the pad, the signal finds its way through the skin to these motor points and causes the muscles to contract similar to if they had received a signal from the brain.
Common uses: Muscle reeducation, toning, strengthening, disuse atrophy, reduce muscle spasms
TENS is a safe, non-invasive, drug-free method of pain management. It relieves pain by sending small, electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the skin to the underlying nerve fibers with a massage-like sensation. TENS works by two different mechanisms:
- Blocking pain signals from being carried to the brain. When the signal is blocked, pain is not perceived.
- The body has its own mechanism for suppressing pain. It does this by releasing natural chemicals called endorphins in the brain which act as analgesics. TENS may activate this mechanism.
Common uses: Acute and chronic pain, arthritis
EMS differs from TENS in that it is designed to stimulate muscle motor nerves, while TENS is designed to stimulate sensory nerve endings to help decrease pain.
How can Muscle Stimulators Help Me?
The beauty of EMS is that the technology is noninvasive and gives you the option of maximizing your workouts without having to spend extra time in the gym or lifting heavier weights.
Tone-A-Matic muscle stimulators serve many functions:
Warm-up Muscles
Tone-A-Matic ems machines can be used to warm up your muscles before you exercise. Using our pre-set programs right before you train will promote blood flow and oxygen to your muscles, which will reduce the risk of injury and help you be more effective in the gym.
Effortless Workouts
Use our machine as a workout itself! Muscle stimulation activates a much higher percentage of muscle fibers compared to regular exercise, and is proven to build muscle and tone your body.
Your brain cannot tell the difference between lifting weights (voluntary contraction) and using an EMS machine (involuntary contraction). Why not take advantage of having the benefits without the added effort?
Faster Recovery
Tone-A-Matic EMS is great to use post workout and to heal muscle-related injuries. Our TAMTEC SPORT units have the largest variety of recovery programs in the world. Each program delivers oxygen and nutrients to fatigued muscles to aid in the flushing of toxins, thus speeding up your recovery time.
The Perfect Compliment To Your Training
It should be noted that Muscle Stimulators are not meant to replace, but to compliment your training routines. It is also imperative that you maintain a nutritious balanced diet to achieve optimal results and stay healthy overall.
Many athletes worldwide use Tone-A-Matic Muscle Stimulation to maximize their training and improve overall athleticism and performance.
